How can I verify the temperature accuracy of my device?

Attention

  • The read-out from the calibrated thermometer should match the set-point of the incubator +/- 2℃. This range is valid for the incubators mentioned in this document.
  • When using another thermometer, or temperature measuring equipment than the one suggested in this bulletin, the precision of the measurements might be outside the allowed range of +/- 2℃.
  • Measurements must be done in an environment with a constant temperature preferable at 15-25℃ +/- 2℃. Please be aware to minimize wind or air draughts, or excessive moisture when taking the measurements.
  • After measuring, clean the tip of the probe and the measuring cavities of each incubator thoroughly with a dry paper towel.

Materials required (recommended):

- Thermal silicone grease or paste

- Timer

- Calibrated thermometer

For example, the calibrated Testo-925 thermometer with flexible thermocouple of 1.5mm diameter including a calibration certificate is advised by DSM.

(see suppliers’ information and calibration certificate in annex).

Thermometer and flexible probe and thermocouple

Delvotest® Accelerator Smart

1. Switch ON the Delvotest® Accelerator Smart. Wait at least 20 minutes for a complete system warm-up and have the system reach a stable temperature of 64℃.

2. Thinly coat the tip of the flexible probe with thermal paste.

Example: dip the probe carefully into the thermal grease or paste and remove. Check for complete coverage of the probe.

3.   Carefully place the tip of the probe into one of the small cavities present in the heating grid, as pointed out by the red arrows. Make sure the probe is on bottom of one of the cavities of the metal grid. Close the lid when ready to take the measurement.

Read the temperature of the incubator on the thermometer display when it shows a stable temperature read out after ~1 minute.

Note:  Should the temperature be out of the product specifications for your incubator, verify that the calibrated thermometer shows the correct temperature read-out (verify thermometer read-outs in ice-water of 0℃ and boiling water of 100℃ or a calibrated water bath at two separate temperature settings):

- If the thermometer shows incorrect values, have it re-calibrated or replaced by the manufacturer.

- If the thermometer is correct, and the incubator is outside the range of +/- 2℃ within the warranty period, contact your DSM representative to replace the incubator.

It is possible to adjust the set-point of the incubation temperature (64 ℃) to the one coming from the following formula:

Adjusted incubator temperature = incubator temperature selected + [incubator temperature selected - actual temperature]

 Example:

Incubator temperature selected    = 64℃

Actual temperature                        = 61.8℃

 Adjust incubator temperature = 64+ [64- 61.8] = 66.2

The new set-point of the incubator is 66.2℃. After heating is completed, the display shows 66.2℃, while the actual temperature will be 64℃. Verify this with the calibrated thermometer before using the incubator.
