✅Delvotest® Strain Variant

This article will explain which stain is used in Delvotest® and what changes in the strain name took place over the years.

The strain variant name Bacillus stearothermophilus has been changed to Geobacillus stearothermophilus in year 2001. Only the scientific name has been updated in line with taxonomy rules. The spores, strain, and test reliability remain unchanged.

In 2001, the species Bacillus stearothermophilus was reclassified into a new genus by Nazina et al. and renamed Geobacillus stearothermophilus. The former variant name Bacillus stearothermophilus var. calidolactis was also included in this reclassification and discontinued in the current naming conventions.

Summary:

  • The Delvotest® test strain remains unchanged since 1972.
  • No impact on certified products – Certified products do not allow for strain changes. Only the naming was adjusted.
  • Implemented in documents – The updated strain name (Geobacillus stearothermophilus) was gradually reflected in Delvotest® documentation between 2021–2023.
